Research interests
Willie Heggins conducts research in higher education
related to diversity, faculty development, leadership
and international education reform. He is conducting a
study on the roles that perception and self-evaluation
play in the determination of success for minority
faculty.
Teaching/professional interests
Over the past two academic years, Heggins’
teaching responsibilities have included courses related
to governance in higher education, multicultural
leadership, student development theory, and student
affairs administration. Heggins also coordinates the
undergraduate leadership minor studies program and
serves on multiple committees as either chair or
committee member for master and doctoral students.
Heggins is an active member of the Association for the
Study of Higher Education (ASHE), American Education
Research Association (AERA), and National Association
of Student Personnel Administration. He serves on the
editorial board for The National Association of Student
Affairs Professionals (NASAP), served as an editorial
reviewer with The Journal of College Student
Development, served on the advisory board for the
ASHE Reader Review on College Student
Development, and reviews manuscripts for the
American Educational Research Journal, Anthropology
& Education Quarterly, and The National
Association of Student Affairs Professionals (NASAP).
