June Canty directs College of Education programs at WSU
Vancouver and teaches in the preservice and inservice
teacher education programs.
Research interests
Canty’s areas of research include general and
special education in rural education, teacher
preparation/induction, and legal ramifications of
admissions and dismissals from professional programs.
Her current project is a review the changes that
have taken place in the past ten years and the
resulting policy implications for rural special
education for the western region of the U.S.
Teaching/professional interests
Canty teaches in the masters in education program, both
in the secondary certification track, plus the regular
masters program. Canty has taught music, history,
social studies, and special education in K-12
classrooms, and has been in teacher education since
1982. She serves as a higher education
representative on the Washington State Professional
Educators Standards Board and on the PESB Executive
committee.
